State laws vary, but in North Carolina if you have three or more employees, you must provide Worker’s compensation coverage. At IHRS we believe if an employee is injured on the job, the right thing to do is to see that the employee receives good medical care; and every effort is made to get the employee back to work as soon as possible.
It is important to remember your obligation as an employer with respect to filling the Industrial Commission Form 19 and providing the Form 19 and the Form 18 to the employee. There are ways that you can manage the care received by your injured worker. You can control the healthcare provider used for the care, and if need be, require additional evaluations by other physicians.
A major factor in getting injured workers back to work is communication with the employee. Unfortunately, many times and adversarial relationship is created because employees feel the organization does not care that the employee has been hurt. Quick, efficient and compassionate care for employees truly injured on the job can help eliminate the need, some employees feel, for legal representation.
Worker’s compensation claims can be managed and malingers exposed by straightforward action by employers. If you have questions about tough Worker’s compensation claims, give us a call, we’ll be happy to talk with you!
